Dr. James Kohel is CAL's Laser and Optics Subsystem Technical Lead and Flight Instrument Hardware Lead. He has over twenty-five years of research and development experience in laser, atomic and molecular physics, and quantum sensors, including the development of a high-flux cold atom beam source and cold atom interferometer-based instruments for inertial sensing. He previously served as Co-Investigator in JPL's Quantum Gravity Gradiometer instrument development tasks, Task Manager for the Compact Raman Spectrometer instrument development task, and was a member of the GRAIL Mission Payload & Integration Test Team. He received a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Texas A&M University and a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Texas at Austin.
