Matteo completed a Master’s in theoretical physics at Imperial College London (UK) in 2015, with a final year thesis on data from the LHCb experiment at CERN. He then went on to a PhD in experimental physics at the University of Cambridge (UK) in 2019, where he focussed on atomic, laser, and quantum physics -- specifically using ultracold atoms and lasers to simulate exotic materials such as quasicrystals. He first joined JPL as a postdoctoral fellow in Nan Yu’s group, before being hired as a quantum research technologist.

Outside of work, Matteo enjoys hiking, camping, and eating (but not cooking).
